Shouldn't it be simpler.

Also, why is it fair that the tax code is so complicated that bussinesses must use a CPA to ensure they get their taxes right?

I guess "with" works too, but it messes up the question. Is it maybe a matter of too many lawyers in office, protecting their jobs, lobbists, and friends. CPA's too. While making large amounts of legal jobs, and preventing poor people from defending themselves (with an attorney) in courts.

Uncle your answer seems like propaganda to me, used to tell people why by people who make laws. Laws are also complicated as a way to create loophole for constituences are they not? I am not talking about so much about criminal law here, most is fairly straightforward. Don't sell cocaine and whatnot. How was Glaucoma Granny charged; interstate commerce? How come physicians can't give discounts on services, but the insurance companies can require them? That's the stuff I'm talking about.

the law is like a machine... if people keep thinking of new ways to cause problems, it will have to change to address those.

it is REALLY unintuitive. i have two family members in law school and they laugh their asses off at how messed up shows like law and order are. businesses must have a cpa because that way there is an expert who can be held responsible for knowing the law... you as a person are entitled to miranda rights for the same reason. after you know what the rules are it is fair to hold you responsible if you choose to break them.

the tax code is complicated because there have been so many people busted for dodging taxes. each of them figured out a way around the law, therefore a new law was required. perhaps we could start from scratch, but i don't think it was just so businesses have to have a cpa and individuals need lawyers.

i can't be my own dentist either because i don't know enough about teeth. them's the breaks.

it isn't propaganda... and really look up some criminal laws to see if they are as straightforward as you think they are. lots of things fell under the commerce clause, like desegregating schools and raising the drinking age was accomplished by withholding funds from the states that refused to do it.

that is why i think of it as a machine, people have just continued to add parts to it when they seemed necessary. there is not really any hierarchy you can look at anymore, we started with english common law but we've had 200 years to alter technology and make the law more complicated to address it.

like... did you know that when we first started using airplanes that your property went all the way up into the sky? farmers tried to sue the airforce for scaring their chickens when the planes flew overhead. that is what i mean... it really happened. look at some of the opinions and you will understand more about how laws are changed and made. does that sound less like propaganda?

Way too many lawyers in a self-sustaining, self-perpetuating corrupt system of overly complicated laws.

Cheney had it right. Open season.
