Well, I use to answer just for the points, but then I started to get afew best answers and I tell you, when that happens, it really makes my day. It's like a high to know someone is actually interested in what you have to say or they actually take your advice. The best kind of high I tell ya. :)

It started out as something that I just happened into one day, and I mostly just did it at work to relieve some combination of stress, boredom and monotony. Actually (and I don't think that this was cause-and-effect), I lost my job about a month later (downsized). So, for about a month, I really didn't use it again. By now, I'm getting really hooked again.

I do enjoy talking about sports, and movies, and now, I'm enjoying some of the polls & surveys. I'm also an "un-recovering": insomniac, and I usually don't spend enough time reading and writing. Oh, and I am both a writer and searching for full-time work, and I just hit patches where Y!A is much more interesing , and so much easier to do.

The other "hook" is reading other people's answers, and also following the 'activities' of people whose answers you really enjoyed at one level or another.

I guess that I sometimes consider myself a great storehouse of fairly useless information (it hasn't made me rich, and only somewhat charming...). YA gives me a chance to utilize that knowledge, and I have learned alot from reading other answers to questions.
In fact, I am seriously thinking of opening a huge online psychotherapy clinic (and spelling school), based on some of what I read here.

It's fun. It's addictive. It gives me an opportunity to show off what I know. I feel like I am on a game show, wracking my brain for the right answer. I feel honored when voted "best answer". I find it interesting to see what others are thinking and how they believe.
