I'm creating a page where pictures will appear in a table when clicked on, but they are large sized pictures. How do I preload them all to cache or memory so that the user won't have to wait each time one of the images is selected?

Just stick them on the site and make the *only* link to them the one that you want it to be. They won't show unless there's a link.

No need for "scripts"! Just have your javascript run before the page load, and add: (in the of your file)
