The extent of human population, coupled with a highly technological industrial society, has already caused massive problems and these will escalate. With the increase in global warming it's more than likely that some areas of the world now supporting human populations will become uninhabitable or nowhere near as fertile due to droughts, floods or storms. This is going to lead to huge population movements as refugee communities from stricken areas attempt to move into areas still habitable. We will have a straightforward choice. Accept and accomodate them, no matter how dificult that will be, or keep them out by force and condemn millions to a death by starvation or diseease.
Personally, I consider it an act of criminal insanity for the Vatican or any other religion to preach against contraception and to encourage large families in the present climate. China limits couples to one child. Brutal as this is, it is at least logical.

Surely a more sensible question would have been "Will the earth become saturated etc"
Read the Malthusian Population theory and then come back and discuss

It will never happen. Rising oil prices and scarcity will disrupt Western and Eastern growth economies. Humanitarian aid will be reduced and human suffering from disease, famine etc will become still greater. In my opinion the free market is unsustainable and we will see a return to protectionism. But things are unpredictable. Alternative fuels (currently supressed?) may come into prominence. There is the war factor too, increasingly likely as the end for many in the world.

We are already over the limit. No couple should have more than 1 child for the next 100 years or so to even things out. People in countries with famine should not have any.

Read "the hot zone" by Richard Preston
Its about Ebola, and is a true story.
There is a particular section that will answer your question.
How the amazon rainforest is being depleted, and how, through humans invasion of this territory, we will become exposed to viruses that have been ´lying´in wait for the humans to come, so that they can escape isolation and devour mankind............
chilling stuff.
so relax..... we will never overpopulate the planet. The viruses will see to that.

Never. If you read the Holy Bible, it tells us God is coming back for the people who have accepted him as their Saviour and that He will reign for 1000 years on this earth after some perilous times called the Great Tribulation.

Where can I sign up for this 'Global Worming' as advertised by Mack in earlier answer. Sorry Mack but that's the best laugh I've had all night. I can't see it as a world saver.
