I keep it in the open where it's easy to deposit drippy things. If it's under the sink, where I used to put it, it drips all over the floor by the sink and the cupboard door! YUK!

Mine is in the butler's pantry, but I keep a little plastic bag attached to the under the sink kitchen cupboard door, for trash too. That way, I can keep all of the smelly stuff tied and bagged and walk it over to the big trash container in the pantry and it doesn't ever smell.

In the open due to lack of room in the cupboard, but at least has a pedal-operated lid.

Its in the open. I change the trash bag every night after I clean up from dinner and I spray Lysol in the can when I change the bag. I have 4 kids and a husband, so we have a lot of trash!

Ours is in the open where its handy.
This way everyone is more likely to use it, although some people will toss trash towards the can and if they miss they will leave it for someone else to pick up. I guess that's another question, how do you get lazy people to clean up there own messes.
