Heck, it's how I live. I find it very peaceful. I'm great company, I'm tidy enough for my own tastes, I tell good stories, I'm funny, I have good ideas, and I'm all-around good person. But enough about me.
Sometimes it's difficult to hang around with others. The best vacation I went on was to a friend's in Virginia, she had been hospitalized before my visit so she couldn't take the time off of work to show me the sights so we drove to her job in Crystal City and I took the train in to the Smithsonian. If you're a museum hound, there's no better way than to go by yourself! No one to wait for, or accommodate. It was the first time I had ever done that. Since then I try to get to places I want to go by myself. It's a beautiful thing.

My sister used to "run away from home" at least once a year. She had 5 kids and really needed alone time. I've also done it twice. It was great fun. I could go where I wanted, eat when I wanted and stop to go to the restroom when I needed to. No worrying if someone else wanted to do what I wanted to do. I could spend as much time window shopping in a store as I felt like. I didn't have to listen to "Are we ready to leave yet?" It's great fun to be off on your own, even for just a weekend. I think everyone should do this every once in awhile just to get a little sanity back into their lives.

I went to Ireland by myself a couple of years ago. It was the best time ever. Met loads of interesting people and drove all round the West Coast. Fab music, food etc.. stayed in some lovely places and didn't have anyone else to answer to. Great idea. Lovely and peaceful. Depends on what sort of holiday though, I suppose.

If you are the type of person who likes there own company, can read lots of books and generally make conversation with others, then I would say go for it. I have often thought that I might do the same, but I have never had the guts - if you go, then good luck and have fun.

It doesn't have to be sad! Like you said, going places lets you meet new, interesting people and make new friends. As a widow, I HAVE to travel alone, but I meet and make friends wherever I go because I CARE about others. Have fun and don't let "singleness" stop you from enjoying yourself!

perfectly fine to go on holiday on your own especially if you need the peace...go somewhere urban where you'll meet a lot of people, or sign up for an adventurous tour...as a single person open to meeting new people, you might avoid places where there are mostly honeymooners who want to be alone :-)

I don't think it's sad at all, Truman. To have the confidence to be able to go on holiday on your own is wonderful.
What I think is a little sad is those people who don't enjoy their own company. Everyone needs their space, but not everyone appreciates that they do.
Enjoy!
