We spend so much of our tax dollars supporting Israel. What do we get in return from spending so much? Is it worth it? Should we continue to support them and what do you think would happen if we stop supporting Israel?

Israeli and US relations stem from an initial American policy of sympathy and support for the creation of a Jewish homeland in 1948. The US views Israel as a strategic ally towards stability in the MidEast. In the past, US MidEast interests included preventing the USSRs further expansion into the region, promoting the growth of democracy and market economies, procuring industrialized countries' access to MidEastern petroleum resources, maintaining communications and trade with the MidEast, and ensuring Israel's security. Israel's partnership strengthens the U.S. presence in the region and when the time comes, it's expected US will align with the United States when it needs its unyielding support.

As far as this business with Lebanon, while the devastation Israel has wrought on the country may seem excessive, Israel does have a point to make - that unprovoked terrorist attacks will not stand nor be tolerated. This campaign isn't about retribution, it is about neutralizing a force that if viewed successful in any way by any other terrorist organization would potentially mean additional attacks. While I don't condone the amount of force, I cannot criticize Israel.
No, I'm not Jewish.

because the U. S. became area of the alternative making that bring about the introduction of Israel and its a democratic state it is supportive of u.s. - it truly is extremely uncommon in that region. If human beings do not help Israel they're letting down an best chum, they're condemning the inhabitants of this new usa to a poor destiny, and if the extremist between the Palestinians and hate filled Islamist be positive in destroying Israel - what makes you imagine they can provide up there - the U. S. is the whole devil.

Because Israel is the only true ally this country has. They have supported us when everyone else in the UN did not - even Great Britain. Even though they do not realized the annointing of Jesus as the Messiah, they are still God's chosen and the Bible is clear that God will keep His hand on Israel through the end. I think it is in our best interest to stand with Israel and God's chosen people.

If God is for us, who can be against us?

What do these major record-setting events have in common?

Nine of the ten costliest insurance events in U.S. history
Six of the seven costliest hurricanes in U.S. history
Three of the four largest tornado outbreaks in U.S. history
Nine of the top ten natural disasters in U.S. history ranked by FEMA relief costs
The two largest terrorism events in U.S. history

All of these major catastrophes transpired on the very same day or within 24-hours of U.S. presidents Bush, Clinton and Bush applying pressure on Israel to trade her land for promises of "peace and security," sponsoring major "land for peace" meetings, making major public statements pertaining to Israel's covenant land and/or calling for a Palestinian state.

What do we gain? Better to ask, what do we have to lose?

What would happen if we didn't? I don't want to find out!

Israel has a right, like any other nation would, to defend itself against attacks. But no nation has the right to produce the vast destruction that Israel has wreaked upon both Lebanon and Gaza.

Should anything happen, Israel's primary benefactor is the USA. This has been the case for decades, but since the appointment of George Bush as president, in 2000, the US mideast policy has changed to one of tough balance and nuanced, close contact, dialogue and "disciplined parenting," to a casual, detached, aloof, do-what-you-want attitude. Bush and his team have allowed Isreal to do whatever the hell it wanted to, emphasis on hell. There are a number of reasons for this. NEOCONs and AIPAC, fundamentalist Rapturists, and Oil Companies.

We gain partial freedom from our guilt for letting the Holocaust happen. That was a large part of the reason Israel was created (some say stolen) in the first place. Politicians gain money (see AIPAC and which congressional / presidential campains they have supplied money to....)

Difficult question. I certainly don't think its oil since all the main oil producing countries are anti-Israel.
I think its historic/traditional - we helped them become a state in the first place.
In addition, I know this is not political but many people believe that supporting God's chosen people (Christian/Judaic view) is blessed by God. I certainly don't think this should be a reason for blind support, no matter your faith. Though religion/heritage is the primary reason for the support the other side receives.
