What sort of material do you enjoy reading? You will want to pick something that grabs your attention for starters and fits in with your reading level. If you could suggest even one or two texts (they don't have to be books) you have enjoyed, it would be easier to give you some advice.
Anne Frank won't work as a murder mystery, since nobody gets killed DURING the text and anyway, everybody knows who the eventual killers are.
Walter Scott's poem 'Lochinvar' as a newspaper report is a fun one I used to teach:
http://quotations.about.com/cs/poemlyrics/a/Lochinvar.htm
It's about a hunky young hero who kidnaps his love as she is about to be married off by her father to a weak and unpleasant nobleman.
Ultimately, use these suggestions as a guide of what text converts to which type of project:
Anything with a dramatic event makes a good news article
Anything with an emotional person makes a good diary or letter
Anything with more than one point of view makes a good script
Anything with a love story makes a good song
Anything in the news can become a story about the reporter or the victim
Good luck!

Sounds like an awesome project. I can see what you mean, there are a million ideas.
Here a few I can think of off the top of my head:
1) Where the Red Fern Goes into a Diary of the Boy.
2) Research on Breast Cancer into a Story or Play of Hope.
3) Anne Frank is a Good choice, but I bet you won't be the only one with that one. Too common.
4) Fantastic Idea!!!!!! The book Persuasion into a Romantic Play or an Diary Entary.........Check out that book, it is a fabulous read.
5) You could find a children book and turn it into an essay/report about the learning aspects it has on children.
Well Good luck to you and Have fun. As I all ready said sounds like a fun project. Hope all turns out well.

How fun!
Here are a few ideas:
Headline: Romeo and Juliet: Double Suicide
Hamlet's diary entries
Dracula killed! Villages saved!
Shylock's diary
Take Dick Cheney's hunting mishap and make a poem or diary entry
Have fun! I'm jealous!

Take Life of Pi I read it in grade 8... it's been a few months but I think it's pretty good.
Anne frank won't work it just isn't like a really good story. Take life of pi and make a sonnet or something Relate subtextual issues
Life of Piscine or Life of Pi I don't exactly remember but my teacher called it Life of Pi

Actually, that sounds pretty cool, why not do Anne Frank into a mystery story?

For inspiration why not go to the library and just wander round the shelves - all of them not just the fiction but reference, biographies etc. Then you can go for something radical, like turning the telephone directory into a play!

your idea is good, i like the idea of a mystery into a diary, that way you would have the reader keeping in track with one individual therefore packed full of suspense as you would be able to let the plot unravel whilst keeping a mystic

Love this Darthbouncy! ;) You should use this one; it's so interesting. I'm definently jealous too! What a fun project. I wish we did things like this where I go to school. Have fun!

what about the verse 'Jerusalem' by William Blake as a news article/report?
Its current but not at the same time.
I think if you did it right you could make a great impression on your lecturer....
