MY ANSWER IN CAPS TO DIFFERENTIATE FROM QUESTION...NOT BECUASE I AM YELLING : )

Do you like going against the grain?
1.Against what others think is right?

IF I THINK I AM RIGHT, I HAVE NO TROUBLE IF OTHERS THINK I AM WRONG. I AM OPEN MINDED AND WILL INVESTIGATE BOTH SIDES, BUT ONCE I HAVE MADE UP MY MIND, WHAT OTHERS THINK IS THEIR BUSINESS, NOT MINE.

2.Are you proud of what you believe and don't care whether others accept you or not?

ABSOLUTLEY. I AM A GOOD PERSON AND DO NOT WITH ANYTHING BAD ON OTHERS EVER. I DONT HAVE TO AGREE WITH EVERYONE, AND IF THEY CHOOSE TO NOT ACCEPT ME BECUASE I DISAGREE WITH THEM, THEN THAT IS MORE A REFLECTION OF THEIR CLOSE MINDEDNESS THAN MY ACCEPTANCE.

3.Or do you subscribe to mindless and/or mindful conformity?

I AM SURE THERE ARE CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE I AM A TOTAL SHEEP, BUT IN GENERAL I ALWASY TRY TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.

4.Do you strive to be like others just to be accepted?

I DO HAVE IT IN ME TO KEEP UP WITH THE JONES' PER SE, BUT NOT AS AN OBSESSION. ACCEPTANCE IS IMPORTANT, BUT I HAVE UNCONDITIONED ACCEPTANCE FROM MY FAMILY AND CLOSEST FRIENDS, AND WORST CASE THAT IS MORE THAN ENOUGH. ALL ELSE IS ICING ON THE CAKE.

5.Do you allow yourself to be shaped by others?

PROBLABLY. A LOT OF WHAT I THINK WE ALL VIEW AS DESIRABLE STEMS FROM WHAT SOCIETY IN GENERAL DOES.

6.Do you believe in your beliefs and discard others?

I TRY NEVER TO DISCARD OTHERS BELIEFS. I AM HUMAN, SO AT TIMES I MAY BE QUICK TO DISMISS, BUT IN GENERAL, ESPECIALLY UPON RETROSPECT, I OFTEN TRY TO GIVE OPPOSING VIEWS A LOT OF THOUGHT.

7.Or are you somewhere in the middle of all this?

I AM GENERALLY OPEN MINDED, SWAYED BY LOGIC, AND TRY HARD TO VIEW OTHER PEOPLE POINTS OF VIEW FROM THIER PERSPECTIVE. I AM FLAWED IN THAT MY MOOD SOMETIMES AFFECTS TO WHAT DEGREE I DO THIS. THIS IS WHAT MAKES ME HUMAN : )

Sometimes I like to play Devil' Advocate. Not for the fun of it entirely, but to try to make people think. Having said that I do respect any person's right to think what they will.

If it is what is truly inside me and an authentic urge than yes I like going against the grain, most definitely and supremely. And part of me gets off on this like a tremedous rush of empowerment as though my heart is on fire. There is a great deal to effortlessly go against the grain about in this culture (US)! At this point I do not think I do it just for the sake of it and there are many things that Im right there alongside most people with like that we all pretty much want the same things and care about the same basic values in different ways. And like it or not Im pretty much part of everyone and I can point my finger all I want but really I just point at myself. I can see that the things I most dislike in others are part of me too, that we all have the potential to be amazing and horrible.
Yes I like going aginst what others think is right when it is absurd, hateful, bigoted or outright idiotic, such as how we are treating the planet and worshipping money. Such a lot of things...
Yes I am proud of what I believe although I try to be open and might just be getting slightly more humble (?). I often have felt that I dont care weather or not others accept me, and many times I genuinely have not! Having my own integrity intact has been more important to me by far. However, I do believe that it is a human need to feel accepted by others and to be part of a community of some sort. We are tribal creatures
I do not feel like I consciously subscribe to mindless conformity, largely because I dont watch TV! Seriously, its amazing the impact this seems to have on people. It is creating a nation of zombies. I do not think that I am free from any kind of tendency toward conformity, however, although I have gone against this most of my life. You may have noticed the similarities between the "non conformists". Its funny. we are all hopelessly human.

I strive to be who I am as completely as possible, and hope to have that accepted, especially by those whose opinion I do care about even if I dont want to care. many times I have faced and continue to face the choice of weather to spiral down with insecurity over being judged/ not feeling being accepted or to just simply validate and affirm myself being perfectly alright as is. So I choose the latter continually, but it doesnt mean I dont feel insecure sometimes and want to be accepted even though I am a pretty incredibly self confident person. I believe we have a soul force inside us that helps us do this if we chose to use it.
Shaped by others? yes, by those I love and am closest to - we help shape each other!
I honestly try to listen to and respect others who have very different opinions and beliefs as I. I have learned a great deal this way and have gotten off my high horse a lot from doing this and realizing how limited I have been in certain opinions and that most people have valid reasons for perceiving things as they do and their lives might be totally different from mine and if I can just shut up and listen I can learn something. I admit that this has been hard/impossible for me at times such as with people who are very hateful and violent towards women or children, for instance, or are completely zealous about their relgious beliefs in a pushy way (or vegan zealots:)
Yes I suppose Im somewhere in the middle, close to the edge of being very adept at defining myself for the most part and honoring what is inside me and my connection with life before I look at others to tell me who I am or who I should be.
I believe we need couragous souls right now more than ever who are willing to against the grain to match up with what they know to be true in their hearts. Otherwise we're like the lemmings - the rush to kill ourselves off is quite a race! But if we think we're the ones with "the" answer, whoever we are, we might as well jump off with the rest of them
