1. The 911 caller DID NOT give the race of the men she saw until she was asked. Then she said that she thought (she was some distance away) they were hispanic. Even if she did, its not racist. It's simply a way of describing a person you are referring to. 2. Asking the race of someone to help the police identify people IS NOT racist. Using racial descriptions in making decisions of guilt or innocents can be. Even that may not be. Let's say you know a bank robber is white. A caller thinks they see a suspicious man that may be the robber. They identify the man as black. It's not the robber. 3. Gates alone made it a racial, then a racist incident. He thought the incident was about him. It was not. It was about his house.
