I've been using tampons since my second period. My school has a lot of stairs, and every class is on a different level, so walking around with a bloody pad in my underwear just wasn't working for me. It was uncomfortable, it was gross, and it collects a lot more bacteria that way. Wearing pads for a week while having to move around frequently between classes, with friends, with my boyfriend ect. was just disgusting, so I switched to tampons and have used them ever since. (It's been 4 and a half years).
It didn't hurt at all, and it was a lot more comfortable than wearing a pad that felt like a diaper. I could go from class to class without worrying if my pad was noticable in my pants, I could go to my friends houses, boyfriends house and hang out, be energetic and have fun without worrying if my pad was leaking, or if they could tell I was wearing one.
With tampons, their a lot more comfortable, and give you a broader range of motion, you can run, swim, anything while still on your period.
Just make sure to change them the same time you'd change a pad, every 4 hours!

Start with the slender, working your way up if they don't stop the flow. If they hurt than they may not fit properly for your vaginal shape. There are alot of brands out there and they expand differently. I prefer the ones that expand side to side rather than the umbrella type or the ones that expand up and down(who wants a dirty tampon half hanging out of their tuuchi?). Just try different ones till you find your fit. Try not to sleep with them. I only wear mine during the day when I'm active and wear a pad when I sleep. Also be sure to change them out often.

no they dont hurt...more comfortable than pads anyday & you can do more activities like swimming or exercise without it being noticed. Use a liner also until you are sure of which absorbancy you need.
