Well... universities are very important if you wish to succeed in movie industry (except actors and actress). You have to know how to use different kinds of technology criteria, such as animation software, editing software etc.
It is also important to go to universities if you wish to be a businessman or the president of US :P because voters or boss will always look at your education degree.

Well, college would help you understand what makes a good movie, and what makes a bad one. Cinema is an art, and very few are naturals at it.
Businessmen definitely need an education. Seriously, who would trust you as their accountant or financial advisor if you had no education.
Presidents are politicians, and most politicians start as lawyers first. You can try running for president with no educational experience, but it would be hard to have political experience without some form of education.

Universities are important in getting a job that is prestigious. Especially if you go to a university that ranks. I went to Indiana University and just accepted a position with the University of Notre Dame, they were very impressed that I graduated from IU that ranks in the top 100 universities (both within the US and worldwide).
