So Why should George Bush care comes the next election, he is out like it or not - his terms up - our soldiers are still dying for a worthless war thats been over for the last 2 yrs or so - in short he did the damage he wanted to at home and abroad and and got away with it all thanks to all the republicans that voted him into office. so why should he care

His cronies want to maintain their power in Washington through contacts and loopholes and underhanded means. They can't do that with an honest President. So yes there are BIG stakes.

2 Big Things: His legacy and the effects on the Republican Party in the near future.

To some degree, he hopes people will remember his reign fondly. The GOP helped him all along the way, he needs to repay that debt.

He wants his party to keep control of both the White House and the Congress. It will be interesting to see how his popularity or lack there-of hurts or helps the Republican candidate.
