Sometimes of an evening when i go to logoff I get a message that says by doing so I will shut down another linked computer. Can't remember the exact wording. Could this other computer be using my same dialup connection? and how could that happen? Could they be accessing any of my files? Should I be worried about this?

If someone was using your dial up connection, you'd know. Your speed would be so slow....... What you are referencing is the multiple log off involved in shutting down windows. If you have more than one account logged in at a time, that message will appear. Don't worry about it, unless someone else using your computer is in the middle of something.

When you are on the internet (even via dialup), you are available to ANYONE you give permission to.

You do this by:
1) Allowing "file and printer sharing"
2) Not enabling a firewall
3) Running server software, either intentionally or via a "trojan"

If you suspect a trojan, run a good antivirus and spyware detection tool to eliminate it... See my SAFE COMPUTING web site (below) for recommended software tools to clean your computer...

You should be very worry because this other computer might be a hacker and trying to get private information off your computer. You should contact your service provider and ask them if they have some firewall software for you to install on your computer to block out such danger. The firewall software that install on your computer (assume you are using Windows) is no use against those hackers.

Your PC can serve as a internet dial-up gateway for other computers. You must be connected to another network for this to work. Is your computer connected to a wireless or wired network?

always use a firewall (not a slowing gadget) is does block prying into your ports to work out if any are 'open' and forestalls uninvited ip addresses from getting into. many different protection subject matters are in touch, yet a firewall is #one million.
