You have to figure out what your skin tone is. Is it cool or warm. The best way to do that is have someone else look at the palm side of your forarm. Have them try to determin if you are pinkish or golden. If you are pinkish then you should wear cool colors and silver jewelry if it is more olive or golden then you should wear warm colors and gold jewelry. Cool colors would be like blues, most bright colors, fire engine red, pink etc. Warm colors would be most of your natural browns, reds etc. You can also get a bunch of color swatches cover your hair up with a white towel then start holding the colors up to your face you will be able to tell quickly what colors you should be wearing.

There is a book called "Color me beautiful" it is an old book, you may have to get it at the library. It is from when it was all the rage to have your "colors" done so you could tell what "season" you are. I always thought it was a bunch of B.S.
But then I randomly grabed a copy of this book at a garage sale... and read it. It is so right on. The trick is the colors you like to look at may not be the colors that look good on you.
For any color you want to buy, hold it up near your face, covering from shoulder to shoulder like a shawl. Then don't look at the item/ color....look at your FACE.
For example I am a blond with ivory skin/ warm undertone/ green eyes. I have always hated the color orange. But on the advice of this book I tried holding up some orangy/coral they way it said to. It made my skin GLOW. I looked healthy and alive. Better than makeup....
Compared to the black, or burgundies, or moss greens I liked to wear before....Incidentally colors I loved to look at, because my Mom looks great in them. (Darkest Brown Hair, Cool Lightest Ivory skin, Black Brown Eyes.)
So try colors you may not nessasarily think of, and see what they do to your face. Some colors will drain it and make you look like the dead. On me...it is butter yellow. The color they come out with every spring. I get lost My hair, My skin...I just fade into the fabric. There will be colors on you that make you look ill. They may even be colors you love. Every spring though it looks soooo pretty on the racks, and every year I try it, and I have to concede I look like they should bury me.
If you have warm skin tone stick to colors with a warm cast to them, so avoid icy pinks, try ballet slipper. Instead of a bluish reds try a burnt sienna, etc. Instead of blue/green try acqua which has more yellow... etc. And only use True white and True black very sparingly. They are too harsh on most people. Try charcoal, and ivory.
