If you're not sexually active, the intrusion of the scope can be uncomfortable, perhaps even a little painful. What's most important is to relax - relax your muscles, distract your thoughts, it'll be over in a few seconds. And if you're a virgin, it's possible that they're might be a little bleeding, but that's perfectly normal, so don't worry if it happens.

And congratulations! Having a pap smear is one of the most important things a woman can do to stay healthy.

Good luck!

It's not as bad as you think. I was terrified when I was about to have my first pap smear, but I was making a much bigger deal about it than it was. It's fairly quick and obviously a little uncomfortable. But it's something that you'll need to do throughout your life. Especially if you plan to have children someday. On a scale of 1-10 .....10 being awful and 1 being nothing, it's a 2. Good luck and dont worry yourself ,it will be over before you know it.

Well I had a Pap smear test done recently & to be honest I give it a zero for discomfort . However when my gynocologist swabbed my cervix, that was very uncomfortable. It kinda hurt but not really. It was more so of discomfort. It felt like I wasn't supposed to be touched there but overall, it didn't really hurt nor was it too uncomfortable. If you are virgin, it will be hurtful , but because I am not, it didn't hurt at all.... Only when she swabbed my cervix 😊

A pap smear shouldn't hurt. It is a little uncomfortable but it doesn't hurt. I have never experienced any bleeding after, but everybody is different. Your doctor will explain everything to you. Just relax, everything will be fine.

It's a little uncomfortable, ask for your Dr to use the small spec if possible, it will make it a little easier. Try to relax and not tense up your muscles as that will only make it harder for the doctor and more uncomfortable for you. Once the spec is in, it's not so bad. Just a quick swab and it should be done. Relax....and find something else in the room to focus on...you will be fine.

If you bleed it is just minor spotting that will go away that day. That's even if you bleed. They really don't hurt. They're a little uncomfortable, but the process doesn't last long. Having one is a necessity so good for you for scheduling one!

No. They do not hurt. Your more frighten than anything. Relax. The nurse will stand right beside you and hold your hand. It's just awkward. I'm 53 and still hate going for them. Just make sure the nurse is in the room with you during the whole procedure.
