The formula is:

C = (5*F-160) ÷ 9

where F stands for the Fahrenheit temperature
and C stands for the Celsius, or centigrade, temperature.

For instance, when it's 85 degrees F outside, that comes out to:

5*85 = 425
425 - 160 = 265
265 ÷ 9 = 29.444444...

so 85 degrees Fahrenheit is about 29 1/2 degrees Celsius.

Hope that helps!

The formula for Ferenheit is

F = 9/4 C + 32

-32 -32

Subtract -32 from both sides

F-31 = 9/5 C

Invert 9/5 to 5/9 and multiply both side by 5/9

5/9(F-32) = 5/9(9/5) C

The 5/9(9/5) on the right side cancell

5/9 (F-32) = C

The Celsius Formula is :

5/9 (F - 32) = C
