A withdrawal will not hurt your GPA like a C will but a C is not half bad either. You need to look at it at from a GPA view more then anything.

The problem with withdrawing is that many schools have completion rates and if you withdraw too much or too early in your degree career at the school you can violate the completion rate requirements and lose your Financial Aid and get put on probation and maybe even dismissed.

Also speaking of Financial Aid...if you drop a class you affect your aid for that term and can end up owing the school big time $. You should never ever drop without talking to the financial aid office first.

Wow, all those answers are interesting. When I did admissions work in a college, it didn't matter if someone had a W, we just looked to see if they DID have the grade requirement and met the GPA. Is a C going to put you on probation?

Also, the university where I worked had a limited number of repeats that you could use, and when those were up, both grades counted. I would say you have to look at your individual situation, especially since so many of the others are saying the opposite of what I'm saying.

And if a C is going to give you a GPA that is too low to transfer, the answer is simple - withdraw. But if you need the credit hours, well then...

Now I have another thought - if you plan to repeat the class at the new place, you have to be careful to make sure it is considered equivalent, so that only the new grade would count. Honestly, what a mess. Aren't you glad you asked?

Drop it. Grades of W are better than grades of C or D. I had eight W grades and was admitted to a top ten graduate school.

Withdrawals don't look great but depending on the rest of your transcript could look better than a C. In the end, employers are going to see your GPA not a full transcript, in which case a W is much better.

I would recommend not taking a W. I was in this same situation and I took the C then retook the class and got an A which overwrote the C. That seemed the best for me

One or two "W"s will NOT kill you. Just don't rack up a ton of them. It doesn't figure into your GPA like a C would. It just shows up as a "W" on your transcript. If you've never dropped a class before, it shouldn't hurt you.

definately take the c, a withdrawl is only a good idea if you're failing the class. if you want to improve the grade, repeat the class next semester.

C is an accountable grade meaning you finished the course with average results. W means that you quit midway through it and basically just said fu*ck it. much better to go with the C grade.

Go with a C. W's are pretty bad; they show that you don't have any committment. At least a C looks like you tried.
