we all know Zidane was clearly the best player at this WC 2006 tournament and nobody comes close to him, i see you have allot of Italian fans answering the question with an Italian player but he wasn't even close to Zidane nobody was and if it wasn't for Zidane France wouldn't even be in the Finals and if it wasn't for a little help early in the WC tournament from the REFS Italy wouldn't of been in the finals and wouldn't be WC champs but its over now. BUT YES ZIDANE DESERVED THE GOLDEN BALL AWARD HE WAS SIMPLY THE BEST PLAYER AT THE TOURNAMENT.

Zinedine Zidane, his performance versuses Brasil, where he showed up the "great" Ronoldinho, was amazing, Cannavaro had skill but Zidane is the Maestro, and he carried his team all the way to the final where Materazzi ruined it with some terrible words. Zizou is the best player of the world cup and the world. No matter what.

definitely NOT zidane. since when is uncontrollable anger a good trait? that guy's an idiot. he played very well during the world cup but the fact that he cant control himself on the field means hes not the best player. a great player has control...over the ball and over his own emotions.
i would have to go with cannavaro mainly because he did a fantastic job as italy's captain. he kept the team together while at the same time playing incredible defense. its not about how much you score (for those that might say klose is the one).
klose in my mind sucks cause rather than trying to help his team, it appeared that he was trying to score and make himself look like a hero....and to get all the attention. its not about scoring, its about bringing your team together and playing as one. when you do that, youre not only going to score more, but make more impressive goals.
who cares if one or two people on the team are fantastic if they cant help everyone else play at that level.

best was Zinedine Zidane. Then come Miroslav Klose, Lukas Podolski, Tim Borowski, Bastin Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm, oh god, I consider that most German players were the best in WC 2006, except a few...

how can you even be the best in soccer!?
you just kick it and it gets intercepted or you just kick it to another player.and just hope that you wont miss the goal by a mile. and actualy i thought that they would actullay score more than 4 goals in the final. but no.
then that waco french guy went physco and head butted that italian. i did like soccer but now they never score or anything. what a boring 90 *** miniutes.
oh yeah, i don't give a rats *** about the typo's i wish the developing nations would admit they know that american sports are better.
