I took it back to CompUSA but they told me they'd need to send back to the manufacturer which could take two weeks. I can't be without my computer for that long.

In response to Vikram d's question: The fan never comes on. It used to come on when I first bought the computer, then it began making a loud noise every time the fan would turn on. Eventually, the fan stopped working completely.

It's send it to the manufacturer and get it fixed for free, or find a local repair store and pay for the quick fix, but either way you need to get that fan fixed ASAP!!!

You must take the screen off, then take the keyboard off, then take the heatsink off, then you can get to the fan.
To put it back you need to replace the thermal compound on the cpu, using arctic silver 5 or some other product. From there just put everything back together the way you took it off.
Or you can send it away, sorry I cant find a free manual for your comp but that is how it is done.

Did u see the Fan rotating when u turn on the laptop becuase in compaq laptops the fan will intially rotate and it will off and it again rotate when the cpu is heated .if it is not rotating intially then fan must be the issue . if the fan doesnt rotate after the cpu is heated up then it maybe Mother board or Fan
pls check it and revert back...

If you don't fix it your computer WILL burn up, and you'll be without a lot more then 2 weeks. Without the fan the processor has no way of cooling, and it will eventually overheat. I didn't look up what processor you have, but most have a generic form of fan you could use.
