Captain James Cook witnessed surfing in Hawaii and he was the first person to see it that didn't already do it in Hawaii. Nobody knows the founder of surfing because there were no history books in Hawaii at that time.

I sure there is no proof to what one person invented it. I'm sure there is a particular culture/group of people who probably came up with the idea. I would assume a group like the Polynesians.

It was an Hawaiian invention. I think it was credited to a king. Its called "a royal sport"

marcus p surfilious in 22BC. he was taking home a plank to build his new home with, fell off a small cliff, he was deathly afraid of water so climbed on the board, a wave pushed him to shore.

afterwards everyone reffered to it as surfing as a joke,.
