Can anyone explain the ending of Shadow of the Colossus to me?

I didn't really get.

it wasn't quite pleasant watching the ending of the colossus for me cause of the horns they put on the baby's head, I thought it was rather weird and evil, I was a little bit dissapointed for that, I think it is because of the theme involved in the storyline, the heroe's will could beat colossus fear and anger, but it was gonna be much like a trap in pay for his girlfriend's life.

The main character sacrifised his life for hers and was reborn into the baby. Then the girl found the "secret Garden" so that she could live in peace with the child.
