Don't give up. That is the surest way to fail. Just keep going. I'm sure you will do just fine. Don't get discouraged if your books get rejected. Just keep submitting them if you think they are good. Many well known books were rejected multiple times before someone took a chance on them.

Good luck with it.

Yes, absolutely. You should carry on writing. Search the web for agents taking on new authors or young authors. You may have to be very persistant to get published, but keep at it, the next one you send could be the one.

If you want to get published you need to work at your craft. Writing is like art or dance, most people can do it reasonably well but it takes real dedication to become talented.

Once you get an agent, then a publisher, you will usually be paid an advance. This is likely to be a 4 figure some I'm afraid, not 6 figure. Only JK Rowling and co get 6 figure advances. From signing a contract to seeing your book on the shelves can take between 6 weeks and 3 years depending on all sorts of things like whether you require an illustrator (you very rarely illustrate your own books, so if it has pictures you will need an illustrator) and how many rewrites you have to do.

When you signed the contract you will have agreed on a royalty with the publisher, usually between 10 and 12%. (Your agent takes a cut from this too!) You then have to wait until you have earnt enough money in royalties to equal your advance, after this you will get paid your royalties either quarterly, 6 monthly or even yearly. If your book does not exceed the advance, you may be obliged to pay back money!

So that's how to do it, and how the money side works. You will need to sell a hell of a lot of books to see yourself through uni. I admire you for wanting to help your parents though. Don't worry about your lack of grammer skills. If the story is good enough, you can send it to people and get it corrected, although you have to pay for this of course. Good luck.

By all means write a book, just don't attempt to do it in English. If you can say, "my parents is poor " without thinking, "Hmm, that sounds retarded" then you have no chance of being able to write a whole book without grammar problems. The first letter of the first word in a sentence should also be capitalised. There should be no apostrophe when saying "50s" because it is not supposed to suggest ownership, nor is it an abbreviation - you do not put an apostrophe before the 's' if the function of the 's' is to make the word plural. As for question marks, one will suffice - do you really think adding an extra 27 question marks will make more people want to answer? I think not - it's annoying.
So do you still think you should write a book? If you make this number of mistakes in only 6 sentences, how many do you think you would make in a whole book?

Yes, carry on, but know that you won't make any big money in writing unless you have the right combination of skill and luck. You can make a living as a journalist or technical writer, but that is pretty far in the future. If you like to write, do it for the love of it. I don't think you can help your folks much at age 14, but bless you for wanting to. Good luck.

Keep on writing!!!

You may not become famous overnight and it would be foolish to expect to, but if you enjoy writing carry on.

Even if nothing becomes of it, in 10 yrs time you will go back and read it yourself and think.....ahhh what a great time I had when I was 14.

Never ever give up on anything, I was brought up in a one parent family with a twin brother, last year my mum died suddenly and when she did i thought about giving up on my education, i was in the first year of my alevels, I didnt give up cause i knew she wouldnt have wanted me 2- i had to work and learn to support myself, and i am now, hopefully going to university in the autumn. Please always believe in yourself because self belief is one of the most important things you can ever have. I wish you lots of luck x

If you have (a) talent and (b) a good story then go for it.

If you enjoy writing for pleasure go for it.

If neither of these apply don't bother and spend your time in a job with a guaranteed income instead.
