You need to talk with your doctor about your fears, you will be able to feel more at ease and relaxed. This should be a happy time for you and this stress is unnecessary. Your doctor should be able to alleviate your fears. Good Luck and Congratulations!!

Oh you poor thing! I was really scared when I was wheeled off to the operating room for my C-section at the age of 19 (almost 4 years ago). I had no idea what it was going to feel like, what to expect, and was young and terrified. The spinal hurt when they actually did it, but only for a minute and then i just went numb from about the mid-belly section down. It was scary being laid out like a crucifix on the table with all the nurses and Dr's all around. I could breath just fine though and was very clear headed during the C-section but very tired after, probably because I labored for 18 hours before that and hadn't gotten any sleep in over 24 hours. I had the shakes afterward, the Dr. said it was just a side-effect of the spinal and I felt freezing cold for several hours after. All in all it was a lot worse in my mind then it was in real life and now I am more scared to have my second baby vaginally because I don't know what THAT feels like! Good luck and just relax as much as you can before you go to the hospital because you will need all the energy you can get!

Relax, I had a c/s and it wasn't bad at all. You will only be numb from about the waist down, no trouble breathing. As far as bleeding to death, that is exceedingly rare..don't stress over that either. I would encourage you stay in the hospital for as many days as your insurance will allow..mine allowed 3 after the c/s. It is major surgery after all and you want to give your body as much rest as possible since you won't be resting much once you go home! LOL
BTW, I went for a one mile walk 7 days after my c/s..the more you move around the better you will feel..it helps with the gas pains too. So put the baby in the stroller and walk as soon as you can!
Congrats and try to concentrate on the excitment of your new baby, not your fears!!

Ok no you are not going to have the spinal go up to far and you will not bleed to death or stop breating. Just calm down, chill out, I had my daughter by csection a year and a half ago and nothing happend, i'm still here, they *as in DRS* know what they are doing, nothing will go wrong, I'm supposing that they will be inducing you maybe? If they do that, it will be the worst part....So, chill out...Good Luck and I hope baby and you will be fine and healthy!

Mine didn't. I felt no discomfort from it. It just made me numb up to the stomach. The bad part for me was the stomach wore off before the legs, but it wasn't terrible or anything. Just annoying. Trust me it's not so bad at all. Much less painful than a vaginal birth. Actually it was not painful at all!
