hi i think of you will discover that its the a million litre 3 cylinder engines that are chain pushed. Yours besides the undeniable fact it somewhat is a a million.2 litre 4 cylinder engine, and as such i'm specific it somewhat is belt pushed. VW advise that their timing belts are replaced at 40000 miles interior the direction of the whole selection, no longer 60000. they have diminished the era two times now as a results of various breakages, even in spite of the indisputable fact that some previous factors of documentation could nonetheless say 60000. nevertheless, 38000 is slightly suspect for belt failure, yet on the different hand, ought to in basic terms be considered one of those unlucky issues that occurs as quickly as in a blue moon due an insidious fault which replaced into recent interior the belt from new. could I be wrong and your engine is actual chain pushed, then i be conscious of that the tensioners on the chain pushed engines have been prevalent to reason problems as a results of untimely failure. the two way, £527 isn't a nasty value in any respect. Regards Geordie

Simple question but hard to answer. I had my cam belt changed at 40,000 miles and then went on a 300 mile journey, and guess what, on the way home the belt snapped, luckily it did not effect the engine, but on most cars its a new engine. It has always amazed me that a nylon belt drives nearly all engines.

vuaxhall reccomend 30,000 miles but it depends a lot of the time 12,000 is abetter bet the ecotec engine is called an interferance engine so if the belt goes the engine is knackered also change the idlers as well and every 3 times the tensioner

most cars you change the timing belts at 60,000miles.
I dont know how much that is in Kilometres, but every 60k you should change it out.
