I have had 3 Dell Laptops, and my wife has had 2 Dell laptops. We love them. We never had any problems with them, and they were custom built by Dell. Go for it ! You won't be disappointed.

Apple is the only one that won't give you troubles

Don't get HP, or Compaq, they die too quickly they're a big company so they can sell crappy stuff.
Don't even think about a Dell unless you like not-working pieces $***. Don't even get me started on the warranty.. seriously, don't even go there!
Toshiba's Descent, just ugly... but what I would get if I were getting a PC based Laptop
Acer's descent so I hear, I wouldn't want one though
Stay Away from Averatec, too new of a company

No matter what you do, don't buy from Future Shop or get their warranty

IBM Thinkpad, they keep winning awards for quality every year. For personal experience I have one from 1995 that is running like brand new yet, even the battery still holds full charge! Plus, if you go onto the IBM website, they still support it, that includes all the manuals in .pdf, plus all the downloadable updates that they ever made for it, your not going to find that kind of support and quality in a dell.

I love my toshiba :-)

but with any laptop buying the extended warranty can be a worthwhile investment. the screen on one of mine went kinda crazy - but was covered under warranty, otherwise the repair would have been over $600 - ouch!

Depends of what you are looking for.
In my opinion...
For power maybe allienware
for a combination of performance, quality and cost...DELL for sure.
Apple if you want elegance, efficiency and need for photograph, games or strong graphics.
