You're holding a hot potato with this question, but yes, I agree with you.
Any abuse any of our ancestors took at the hands of other peoples' ancestors is long past. The incidents of both white and black slavery in the United States have dropped off the radar--the African Americans in this country are free and have all the rights "white" citizens enjoy.
I am descendant of southern slave holders who lost their land during the Civil War, but I was born and raised in the North"..in fact, my entire family has cut off ties with the South for five generations now. My parents and grandparents are all good, working-class people who have never been racist. They taught me both racial and religious tolerance. I went to public schools that had a substantial population of African-American students. Some of my best friends and co-workers are African American, and skin color has never been an issue in our relationships.
I hold no enmity or lingering prejudice against African Americans, and I wasn't even born during the times of greatest struggle for the African Americans in this nation.
Why, then, must I be held for my ancestors' mistakes? It makes absolutely no sense to me to be called "racist" and an "oppressor" when I've never even once raised a hand against someone of another skin color.
It's time to let it go.

It's not just slavery that we are still mad about. How about after that period when were still treated like trash. Go back and look at us being sprayed with hoses, hung and having crosses burned on our front lawns. Let's also not forget people spitting on us and calling us the N word in the 60's all because we wanted equal treatment!!! How dare you belittle the things WE have had to endure over the past few decades and still have to endure today.
No one thinks they deserve "Special Treatement". We think we deserve Fair Treatment. How ignorant are you to say "These People have the same rights". Honey some of us still to this day deal with racism. For you to ask this ignorant, IGNORANT question goes to show you that people's mindsets have not changed and will never change.
You want to know why we are still holding on to the past and still angry. Two names for you...Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X!!! Keep reading your history books about everything that was done to blacks through the 60's during the civil rights movement and then answer your own question!
Oh and "Science" has been reported!

Look what God did in exodus to the people that whined and complained, they stayed in exile for alot longer, if people choose this path, they won't see the many opportunities facing them, and that is with anyone, if we stay dwelling on something as in a relationship even, we'll miss other good oppourtunities, it does no good to sulk, or complain, especially when it doesn't even effect present day time. We all should be thankful for the things we have instead of the things we don't. We all have freedom now so it should end.

You are white you will never understand what it is like to be black. People say that now everything is equal but it is not. I can't explain to you how it is not equal but it is. You would have to live the life of a Black person. And not even just a black person. Any minority. I mean you white people made a whole race disappear. When was the last time you saw a Native American family sitting down in a restaurant? You haven't. Just enjoy your whiteness and have a nice life.

I seriously disagree with you. Being an African American, I can tell you that the after effects of slavery are far reaching. Many, most likely the majority, of African Americans still carry around that "mental prison" slave mentality because it is continually handed down generation after generation. It has only been 30-40 years since African Americans have been truly "free". After 300+ years of being enslaved. It is going to take some time for the older generation to stop passing on this slave mentality of not being able to do for ourselves and putting our control out side of ourselves and being grateful for handouts like welfare checks and subsidized housing. A lot of African Americans also feel resentful because the US promised to give them reparations in the form of "40 acres and a mule" to get them started but this was not enforced. It is hard to go from being a slave to being free and having nothing material to produce in that "free" state. The majority of African Americans don't want hand outs they just want a hand up. But I don't fault you for thinking this way, its hard to understand what a group of people go through unless you are in that group or go through similar situations or have access to find out for yourself. Fortunately for me I was raised in a two parent family that supported my educational endeavors that allowed me to break the chains of my mental prison and become a contributing member of a society that still (many times) discriminates against me because of the color of my skin. And I have to live with this the rest of my life, makes it a little hard not to be resentful and feel the world owes you something.

i agree with one of the others she said it is hard to understand something unless you have lived that life. I don't know where you have been to hear someone whine and complain but I have been around blacks all of my life and I have never heard anyone whine or complain. Just treat blacks or any minority the same as you would anyone else.

the fact is that while african americans were enslaved in this country, not everyone enslaved them. also it was many of their own people who sold them for slavery. thats just a little information that people seem to overlook. if we are seeking equality then maybe we should quit trying to be politically correct all the time.

not exactly. I think African Americans are still disenfranchised by the effects of salvery, jim crow and segrigation, and deserve to have anger over it. But it should not be used as an excise for not trying. I also don't think that they should hold white america responsible for the actions of their forefathers.

Psychology is my field of expertise. People do that behavior for the purpose of dominance. What better way to establish one's dominance than to falsely claim that others are dominating oneself? Africans, on the average, have higher testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and serotonin receptors of aggression than do white people, due to having different genetic alleles. Notice black panther's uncivil chimpanzee-like reply in which he called you a pin head for asking an honest question, such that he is clearly trying to establish dominance. Be careful; such ape-people might start throwing their feces at you.

It's not just African-Americans. Why is everything a race issue anyways? Why are you singling out African- Americans? You didn't put our ancestors in slavery, so why should it be your concern? Ridiculous.
