"Duckweed has been harvested by dragging floating timber booms across the water towards shore, and then removing the plants from the watershed to prevent them from decaying or re-entering the water."

I've tried a lot things to get rid of it. Watermeal is a smaller form of duckweed and really difficult. The only thing that worked well was to put some domestic ducks on the pond. They had it wiped out in a week.

Duckweed is easy to skim the surface with a tool like a swimming pool net. Do you have fish? My fish love to eat the stuff.

Check with the conservation dept. in your area the should let you know. If duckweed is like moss get some carp- they don't breed or eat other fish.

get a couple of koi, it'll be gone in no time
