Yes...as a private psycological experient, I actually had an imaginary boyfriend as an adult.

I was in my 20's. I began to get sick of all the dating around I had been doing, never finding that one guy who made me feel like a settled relationship would be worthwhile.

Finally I decided to invent an "realistic" imaginary boyfriend. I named him, gave him a family history, likes/ dislikes, personality pros/cons... I even made him colorblind, decided what type of car he drove and defined his relationshipwith his brother!

ANYWAY, I continued to go on different dates w/o commiting. Finally I met a man who most resembled the good qualities (he was colorblind to boot) as my imaginary boyfriend...we got married 50 weeks to the day after that!

Long story short, I think imaginary friends help in the dating scene, where most of us knock around not knowing what we want and can't snatch it up when we're confronted with it.

OMG!! Totally.. I went through this phase where Michael Oliver (the kid from Problem Child) was my imaginary friend.. man was that bad for my parents.. haha.. He was more like the little devil on my shoulder telling me all the mean things to do to my parents! haha.. then when I got older (like 9) Freddie Kruger was my imaginary friend.. was NOT fun.. he only came to me at night.. kinda like the movies.. curse my family for letting me watch ALL his movies from the tender age of 3! haha

An imaginary friend that was:
1.real but you didn't know it?
2.an actual imaginary friend?
or 3.derived from someone in real life?

I had an actual imaginary friend that was an exact duplicate of my pre-k BFF.

I had a wolf, it was a bad wolf... it drove my parents mad. I'm still convinced it was real! And i had a smurf... (not one of my proudest moments... but hey we can't choose who our imaginary friends turn out to be).

Mine got me in trouble all the time. He would do things I wasn't allowed to do, and my mom would yell at me. Fortunately, my dad tended cause a lot of problems, too, so I could just blame him, and Mom would believe me.

My sister and I had a whole gang of them...and we shared. I even kept track of their names and everything.

No, I'm not nuts. It was kinda fun though. ;)
