make sure he is lifting weights, most high school teams will have off-season lifting programs... to start varsity he cannot bench less than 200 pounds... but his legs need to be the strongest feature, do a lot of leg presses if you do not like to squat and remember that you use you legs to drive the defender off the ball. Just constantly go outside and practice exploding out of your stance and staying low, coaches alwayst told me "the low man wins!" I would make sure he does some long distance running for his endurance, about a mile a day if he can... Also do as many exercises as you can do strengthen your hands and forearms to help in pass blocking ( basically you jam the defensive lineman or linebacker on pass blocking and this is where a good bench press helps ) Your feet are vital, keep them moving and watch your balance

Based on your height and weight, I believe that the best fit for you is at center. For your age, you have the ideal size for a high school sophomore center. My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this autumn (and every offseason) is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, into better shape, and gain some muscle, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful, top notch center in high school football, who could go on to play college football. By the way, your chances of playing college football depend on your performance in football during your sophomore, junior, and especially senior, years of high school. If you perform very well in football during your final 3 years of high school, you will greatly improve your chances of getting recruited to play for a college football program in the future.

Keep your butt down, it it gets to high you lose all of your leverage and power, practice keeping your butt down in your stance. Stance is key. tell him to go to his coach and ask him to look at his stance right at the beginning of the season, if his stance is wrong the rest of his game will be wrong. Keep you feet moving at all times, never stand flat footed, you lose all your momentum. Keep defenders close to your body, you should make contact with the front of the top of your shoulder pad, with your head on the side the play is going. Learn your blocking rules. Knowing your plays is definitely key.

Always keep your feet moving, keep your gravity low and balanced, and never let a defensive lineman turn your shoulders.

MAin thing to me was your knees have to be springy and able to stay bent. Getting below your defender is important to have the momentum

If the DL is bigger, stronger and faster, remember there is a penalty every play. They mostly don't get caught. That how I played anyway.

Learn how to use your hands legally. And don't lean too far forward on blocks; stay in balance.
