The life was much better as a child because of no formed opinions and hence no bias. If this is termed as immaturity, then maturity should have given a wisdom not to hate and be tolerant, which is absent in the grown ups. Nobody can brush aside the childhood's happy days just like that.

Unfortunately, many people think their life was 'much better', but this is mainly because they were not mentally matured and 'aware of all the bad things in the world', which essentially, have stayed the same, present in merely different forms.

The goal should be to keep those good memories, but not allow yourself to be so burdened by your awareness of the human nature of the world that it depresses you.. Change your attitude towards your present life and live happily and thankfully, no matter what your place or status!

in some ways yeah- like "big wheels" and "Tire swings" no worries and "cootie shots" first dances, kisses, all of that so amazing. "fraggle rock"? good times right? Thing is though. no driving, no money, no real love opportunities. now we make our dreams come true. We are the captains of our ships. Happy sailing.

Since I grew up in the 1950's and 60's, I do. I wouldn't want to be a kid now.
