The tape player in my 98 Dodge Neon doesn't work right can it be fixed?

The tape player will play good when it starts out but when the tape switches sides the person singing sounds like the chipmuncks.How can I fix it?

You could try using a cassette cleaner,
you can pick one up rather cheaply.

The other thing you could try is picking up another factory stereo at a junk yard.

It really isn't worth the repair price that it would cost. You can inquire at auto-sound shops to get more info, but if it were me, I'd just have a place like Best Buy or the like install a new car stereo. The tape head is dirty. Get a tape head cleaner from Radio Shack.
