I have some partially used containers of liquid petroleum naptha fuel (used with camping stoves). I am not sure what the proper way is to dispose of them. I am a bit reluctant to pour it down the sink or just toss them in the garbage since I dont know if that is the right way to do this.

Call your local government offices they will tell you where to take it or what to do with it, there are disposal places for toxic hazardous and combustible materials some charge some don't, it is illegal to dump them down the drain or into the ground, or dump them in the garbage because of how waist is handled.

Find out where the Hazardous Waste Disposal center is in your area. Take it to them in the original containers. Its against the law to pour stuff like that down the drain or in the gutter. Look in the phone book under recycling centers.

take it to hazardous waste disposal

or put some wood and paper in a metal trash can, pour in some naptha(2 cups max), and then toss in a match

only do if you are careful and outside in a yard with nothing overhead

if you put it in a glass jar with orange peel and an air tight lid, let it set for a week, you will have some nasty moonshine and you can just drink it, if you arent into that, i would suggest taking it to a local mechanics shop and ask them if they can dispose of it. they have containers to seperate waste oil, and fuel and antifreeze so if they arent jerks, they should have no problem taking a fairly small amount off your hands. if you just dump it, you violate a whole bunch of laws and EPA standards and regulations.

Gosh, whatever you do, don't throw it down the drain. Call the landfill and ask them what to do with it. Sometimes they have a special day when you can take it to the landfill with other no longer used household chemicals. If all else fails, wrap it in newspaper, and put it in a bag of garbage and put it with the regular trash.

Try your local library. I live in Chicago and the Chicago Public Library system has a battery recycle program. They have the little containers there and you just drop your used batteries. They take care of the rest!
