I'm here to go against died fish, I don't have anough room to describe what barbaric activities go on in the dyeing places, but here's a link to describe more.

I am not an endorsed person to say this, I'm saying this to try and get peoples awareness to this cruel, murdereous thing. Please do not use answers to answer saying 'what?' please leave comments, not answers.

I have a dyed molly. It is very neat looking with pink and blue stripes and seems very comfortable and very well-adjusted to my tank.

I'm not going to resay what everyone else has already said other than you all are right, it is very cruel to the fish. I will say I'm pretty sure that well over 90% of the people that buy these fish don't know they're died (I don't think that's the right spelling, but it fits) or don't know the effects of it. A good way to stop people from doing this may be to try and educate people that are buying fish on what this does to the fish. We could try to get fish website to either have a section about died fish or a link to that website. And have them display it in a spot on the site that is easily seen by anyone that visit. All we need to do is get enough people to not buy these fish, so that it is no longer profitable for these people to do it.

The practice of dying fish is cruel and unusual. They say the dye doesn't harm the fish, but in all reality, it makes the fish die faster. At least, from my previous experience (without knowing about dying fish and all that), it has. I've had what were called "painted glass fish" before, and they died, like, a couple weeks after we got them, whereas the petstore said that they'd live to be several years. So yes, dying fish is cruel, and people shouldn't buy dyed fish, if they can help it.

I'm glad someone brought up glofish. I think both practices are unethical. Injecting paint is -you said it- Barbaric. Geneticaly mutating an animal for cosmetic purposes is disgusting. What would people say if they were doing this to dogs. Fish are alive too.

Yeah its the same as the painted turtles they sold in the sixties they live for about a week then die painfuly.People are dumb and can't appreciate natural beauty which is the smae as a girl slathering her self incosmetics before she even thinks of leaving the house.

This is the first I have ever heard of this practice. Thank you for the link. From the little I read there it really does sound awful.
Good Luck in your quest. I will not forget this and will inform friends.

i too think this is a barbaric practice.several species of freshwater fall victim to this practice.the aquarium trade however; did induce this practice by wanting more color variations in the fish industry.the only wat that i can think it maty stop is if ledgislature passes some laws forebidding this cruel treatment.
