I too have been a victim of police misconduct, unfortunately I had no recourse, even after a lawyer and $25,000.000 lawsuit I came out being accused of wasting the officer's time, abused and empty handed, the system has more financial resources than I so..... I wish I had a better answer just know what to do when pulled over or approached by an officer of the law. Check the ACLU website for free information.

GOOD LUCK !!

The best thing to do is report the abuse, to the officers Internal Affairs office, then file a compliant with the local District Attorney offices. And by all means when and if possible have witnesses, with written statements, and a good lawyer to prove your charges. Most likely, depending on the severity of your charges, nothing will be done about it, but at least you have stood up for yourself, and made it known that you will not except that kind of behavior, from those who are supposed to protect and serve?
And also a good rule of thumb is to write down their badge number and name. In some states, they cannot refused to give that information out to you. List all officers involved, if possible and the number that is on their cars.
I went through something similar, and had to go through that whole process. The results were they dropped the charges against my sons, which, was really all I wanted since they were defending themselves, against some radical teen group of attackers.

Don't break the law next time. I have never been a victim of police brutality, and I have never been arrested, they seem to go hand in hand.

If it's legit, get a lawyer. Don't bother going to the dept, you won't get far since more likely they stick together to cover each others mistakes. Witnesses are a must. Your word vs. theirs - you lose.
