Actually, Canadian forces are supporting the British, as Canada is still a British Commonwealth.
That being said, I think you're right on with the rest of it. Neil Young, along with a significant majority of the Baby Boom generation never outgrew the self-righteousness they got a taste of in the 60's. They had a point (to an extent) in the 60's, but they don't seem to grasp that 40 years later, the situation and all its contributing factors might be different, and their views of the situation then do not automatically apply now.

Just because someone has a lot of money and is successful doesn't mean that when they speak their minds on issues, they are trying to capitalize on dead soldiers. A few questions to consider:
1. Are Republicans capitalizing on 9/11 when they use 9/11 as justification for everything from the Iraq War to their own re-election campaigns?
2. Does George W. Bush's privledged life allow him genuine perspective on certain issues that affect Americans or the world?
3. Does the fact that Neil Young is a Canadian mean that he has no right to speak out about issues not affecting his own nation? Americans have perspectives on everything outside their country ranging from the situation in Iraq to North Korea to Lebanon. Should we shut up already?
I don't know the answers to these questions for sure. I'm looking at the world through a liberal viewpoint, so you may not agree with me. This is just my perspective.

Neil Young was born in Canada and has lived and worked in California since 1966. He came from a poor background has faced many hardships including surviving polio, diabetes and epilepsy. He has a son with Cerebral Palsy. Though not always privileged Neil has used his huge sucess to support a lot of charitable causes including benefits for the Bridge School for disabled youth and Farmaid. I would say that Entertainers & celebreties with this type of background have just as much or possibly more genuine backgound on issues as say Arnold Swartzenegger, Ronald Reagan, Travis Tritt, or Charlton Heston.

Actually Canada is fighting in your war, my friend. We are losing young men and women in Afghanistan, since your country decided to leave for Iraq. Also, our Prime Minister is very pro-American, and its starting to look like we would accompany you in any 'new' war. Secondly, Canadians fight in U.N peacekeeping missions all the time, and we have soldiers stationed all over the place to stop war. Finally, you don't have to be in a war to appreciate the loss of life that it causes. Mr. Young is trying to help the only way that he can, and I don't think I could say the same for you. (Nobody "capitalizes" on dead people)

Neil Young is not new to being anti war. He was also not in favor of Viet Nam in the 60s and 70s. As any free person celebrities too are allowed to voice their opinions on international matters because it really does affect all of us. But I do believe that some celebrities do this to draw attention to themselves.

Dude, he lives in the US and was only born in canada, and lived there a short time. He grew up in the US. The canadians ARE fighting and helping in Afghanistan stupid. America needs critisim. The war in Iraq is over oil and has caused too many pointless deaths. We are all one species and deserve to critizise each other. Plus isn't there something called FREE SPEECH?!

I'm Canadian, and I'm anti-war. What does that have to do with it? You don't need to be actively engaged in combat to have an opinion about it.
Although I'm sure some artists do capitalize on such things, what I know about Neil Young as an individual leads me to believe his motives are pure whether you agree with them or not.

Well Neil Young has been around for a long time and his style has often dabbed in the political scene as rock music will. Some people will identify with their perspective, so it sells.

And he's still a Canadian citizen, sure he has a few homes here, but he's not even a citizen of this country.
