It can't be repaired well enough to get your deposit back, not without replacing the hole top or having it re-laminated. Try a cabinet refacing company.

The exact location is key in determining if the damage is repairable. In this particular situation there is nothing that "you" can do to repair this counter but a handyman can install what was commonly referred to as a counter top saver. This can be a section of butcher block maple The damage from the hammer has to be in an area that logically would have a counter top saver installed in it like near a sink or stove.
The cost varies so try to stick with a tried and true handyman for a "deal". Your deposit may be a drop in the bucket compared to what some tradesmen would charge for this service. Good luck !

You can by new laminate at Lowe's. It is not a permanent fix but it will cover the whole. Also counter tops are fairly in expensive at Lowe's. assuming it is not a huge kitchen it would probably cost you in the neighborhood of $194 to replace the counter tops

You can try and cut out the section; not the wood base, just the top piece, assuming you can find a piece to match. If you can find a laminate to match then you can glue it in using the special contact cement for counter tops. Check you local hardware, counter top store etc.

I went to lowes, and used peel and stick floor laminate. I redid my whole counter with it. It looks nice. I went for a grey stone look. I primed it first though. And I used caulk in between. Cost me about 15 dollars. I found laminate on sale.

if the cut is not too deep you can always use some epoxy glue or marine glue to fill the gap.. or try to push back the dent secure it under with some wood and screws.. if not try to work out something with the landlord to pay and replace it.
