I hate the term "Heavy Metal" as it reminds me of 1980's big hair bands (some of which were way cool):
My fav band from the heavy music genre are Deftones.

Best ever, has to be Black Sabbath while Ozzy was still in the band. Since then there are many many great bands. Oh and for the record, Metallica have been terrible since 'Load' (of balls) was released.
