my best friends cousin is white.... his high school team football colors were blue white red, so they adapted the rebel flag as there like team sticker (even the black kids used it) well he was driving down the road with the sticker on his car, 3 black guys saw it drug cut him off drug him out of his car beat him within an inch of his life called him a cracker white boy every white name in the book, he cant see out of his left eye to this day.... my question is is they were not charged with a hate crime, i guarantee if it were the other way around it would have been....now to me its very embarrising, i dont care what our ancestors went through either that doesnt mean anything to me in this case i dont care. i just want to know if your embarresed as well or what you think?

I'm not a fellow African American, but since I don't think you are either I'm gonna answer.
Hate crime laws were not designed to curb hate crimes against whites. They were designed to keep whites from committing racially motivated crimes. It's an asinine double standard, but the reason for it's existence is simple. White people have been deemed the only race capable of being racist. Common sense and reason shows this to be completely untrue, but laws are not always based on common sense and reason.
I grew up near a gang infested area of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Being white in the wrong neighborhood got a lot of folks beaten, and many killed. Out of all the instances of black on white violence, I'd never heard of one that lead to a hate crime charge.
So I definitely agree with you. On a different note, the school emblem does indeed sound like an idiotic idea. The rebel flag is without a doubt a symbol that glorifies white racists.
SPEAKENGLISH, In regards to your pointless rant on my last question: RELAX PAL, you're going to spring a leak or pop a hemorrhoid. Really, how the hell does anyone know what race you are? I am not an African American but that sounds like a horrible thing to happen to someone.
And if you care about my opinion I think that they should have been charged with a hate crime.

Your friend's cousin did nothing wrong. He was supporting his school's team. His school is one of the stupidest I have ever heard of, and should change their sticker. And, yes it is a hate crime. They should be arrested, no doubt.

As long as they were convicted of aggravated assault, at least, they got justice. Kicking the crap out of someone doesn't become a worse crime just because you're screaming epithets. The crime is in the violence.

Any crime where color is the motivation is a race hate crime and the perpetrators should be treated severely.
You however, should not confuse your ancestry with racist bigotry whatever the color. They are two separate issues.

It is a hate crime. Simple enough. But, no offense to your friend's cousin - you use that sticker and you run a risk. They should be sentenced for their crimes, and your friend's cousing should learn not to play with fire.
