Hello,
I'm a computer professional from NYC and might be moving to Texas next year... so could anyone tell me what's the best city to live there and generally what are the pros and cons of living in TX.
Thank you

i would prefer Austin over any other larger city.

pros and cons? well that's different for everyone.. I'm sure you'll be getting the "redneck answers" and the "smart@ss answers".

for the most part, Texas (as any place) is what you make of it.
Austin is a bit more down to earth and non-hick, i guess would be the word.
laid back, old school, bohemian...ecentric.
the only cons i can think of is that it gets hotter than all hell, and the cockroaches are the size of small cats...but other than that its alright!
of course their are more "rednecks" , sexist men, and bigots...and of course this is a red state, so if your Democrat, it can be a bit overwhelming. but people are friendly, and timeless in a way.
i swear I've lived here almost my whole life...I'm sure i will live in other places in the future, i have in the past, but i always end up back in Texas.

I am born and raised it Texas! I live in Fort Worth and I love it!!!! The people in Texas are super friendly here, the food is awesome and there are a million things you can do for fun, plus you are about 10-30 min. from Dallas. Dont forget the kick a** accents, ya'll here me???

The down side is that some places are real ghetto, Stay away from the oak cliff in Dallas. And if you can't handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen....... lol it is 105 right now super super hot...

But to be honest you know the saying "Everything is Bigger and Better in Texas, and that is soooo true! I hope you enjoy Texas as much as I have.

P.S. Stay away from the small towns...weird phycos are there, stay in the city's.....Does Texas chainsaw massacre ring any bells? It is based on a true story....

I'm originally from Florida, have lived in Georgia, Illinois, and now... Texas. It can be a bit backwards here sometimes, but the food is great- I'm in San Antonio now. The people are mostly friendly, the drivers are mostly bad though... not sure how that works out, but if you're from NY, then it probably won't be so bad. :)
San Antonio is great because you're only about a half-hour from anyplace you want to go.
Housing is a lot cheaper here than many other states. I'm getting ready to move to D.C. Good luck!

Well i recently moved to Texas, Houston to be exact from California (los angeles). And well here i got the chance to own a home and the cost of living is a lot less than California. Texas is a HUGE state...so the possibilities are endless...Traffic is pretty bad..but coming from California is no big issue to me...Weather...well it can be pretty weird...it rains a lot...and it's pretty hot and humid....

Pros- Food, different cultures like western and Spanish, populus cities, many things to do, successful sports teams

Cons- Too hot during summer months, bad storms both tornados and hurricanes possible

Could be pro or con- Huge state, Bush people everywhere, accents, big guys, smoking, some people are less educated
