that depends on what you're watching. fox news, for example, is slanted left, while nbc news is slanted right. I think, in general, the people who watch the news probably lean more to the right, so the news broadcasters cater to that.

It is niave to think that the media is slanted. Yes there a few sections of mass media that are slanted, but those are called opinion pieces, and are read for opinions and not news. Fox, for example, picks up a lot of flak because the most prominant programs are the O'Reilly factor and Hannity and Colmes. Both of which are opinion programs and both of which are meant to entertain.
Reporters bring thier own individiual baggage and beliefs with them. media corporationis a compendium of all its human parts. And this it seems to lean based on the reporters.
It is true that the first goal of the american media is to make money. However that has not made it more conservative or liberal. It has only made it more entertaining. Infotainment, if you will.
The flow of information is ultimately controlled by those who release facts and figures to the media. What the media gets is not the whole truth. Then again however, when the majority of the population believes a lie, doesnt the lie become truthful?

The mainstream media is slanted towards cash. They want to sell stories and attract viewers/readers. It's all about the advertising bucks. They create some issues and ignore others.
I am truly frustrated with all major media outlets. Watching the news can be difficult at times. The internet offers some relief and the international media does as well. There is a whole world out there and 80% or more of my newscast is domestic. I understand this is America, but when I see a bear in a hammock on six different newscasts...Give me a break.

Depends on which news you listen to and where you live. Different regions get different news even though they're owned by the same conglomerate. So you might live in the South and get more of a right slant out of NBC or if you live in the Northeast or Cali, NBC will deliver with a slight bend to the left. It is strictly a matter of the way the networks are organized.
This was an issue during the last elections, as you may recall. As for me, I find the news delivery in the US (mainstream type) very lopsided, not enough focus on international news, and too heavily interpreted with built in flaws in logic and coherence to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
The only station that I can tolerate is PBS as it delivers BBC world news and NRP. Beyond that, I don't even listen too much, really.

American news media are never fully square with the public. You have both left and right leaning reporting.

Mainstream media is biased to the left. That is why people are beginning to reject them.
