Clearly I do not want to be like the Yankees and settle for a fatd runk like Sydney Ponson, but who is avaliable. I would say Maddux or Smoltz would be the best temporary option, and Zito would be the bets long term option(however, this may not be realistic now but could be a reality when he is a free agent)

I dont know, they're getting a ton of injuries right now. But remember, you gotta give up something to get something. They wouldn get Maddux or Smoltz for free. Plus, Epstein is not the kind of managerto go for the quick fix. He will try to get a young arm that will be good for a while.

Maddux is old, Smoltz i can't say nothing bad about him, and Zito doesn't impress me at all. A good curveball doesn't mean $h!t. Our best bet would be to put some nobody in for a week or so because David Wells is about to return he had a sucessful simulated game throwing to Alex Cora and Wily Mo Pena. When Matt Clement shakes off his head injury, which is the only thing that is really bothering him, he will return to his dominant self. The Red Sox are set for the rest of the season in my opinion. As for Papelbon being a great starter I don't think he would even compare to our options now. Great closers aren't good starters, well, not great starters. If Beckett has Mirabelli catch for him every game then he will be throwing 8 inning shutouts. If Lester does what he did last time out then we will win. And whe the offense starts to heat up again no team will even be in our league in outings from our top 3 pitchers. I have alot of confidence in Wells too. I don't know if you seen his first start back before he caught that line drive in the knee cap, but he was doing great. This is just my evaluation on the pitching though.

I say we only need a temporary solution, Maddux or Smoltz would both be great. I would really like to see Papelbon get out of the pen though, he's a great closer, but he would be an awesome starter. They just need to stretch him out a little bit so he can go 7-8 innings instead of one. He used to be a starter, so that shouldn't take long, but it would be hard to do during the season. I think getting a veteran pitcher now just to plug the hole for the rest of the season would be best, then move Papelbon in at the beginning of next year.

Red Sox website says Kyle Snyder tomorrow (Heaven help us) and the always reliable TBA on Saturday (Manny Delcarmen, Julian Tavares, or someone from Pawtucket up for a cup of coffee?)

Im not sure oh holy answerman, are the Yankees not pursuring Zito anymore, I would consider Hansen even though hes inexperianced and young.

I'm a yankee fan, but i have heard that papelbon could be a possible starter, but i think he's good enough to stick at what he's doing now. other than that, they better do something quick before the deadline.
