We are military. We live in military housing. Our only bills are telephone , cable and car insurance which doesn't add up to $200 a month. We have a great military savings account, they've been taking $250 a months out of hubbys check for eight years. We haven't touched it so there is a pretty penny in that account is untouched Our savings account gets $500 a month, the checking is my problem. I spent $10,000 dollars in three months and the only thing I have to show for it is a sofa that only cost $700. Walmart loves me, I think I payed their employees salary for a month. I'm a compulsive shopper. My husband is no help, he thinks since I am such a good housekeeper and mom and take great care of him and the family I derserve it. I don't have an outside job. Maybe I need one to see how hard it is to make a dollar. Help?

Go to http://www.Oprah.com and check out the debt diet. There are charts to help you find out where your money is going.

You need to find what is missing in your life that you are replacing it with shopping. Some people become addicted to alcohol or drugs, some people it is shopping.

Good Luck

I think you have an issue about compulsive shopping. Just a suggestion - whenever you want to buy something, try it on first or do a test or better yet mentally list in your mind the possible uses it could give you and weigh the price against it. For each advantage an item gives you, look for the disadvantages of buying it until one outweighs the other and helps you come up with a decision.

HOWEVER, i should say that occassionally you have to give in to your impulses as well as long as the item is within your budget and really looks good on you or inside your home.

You could also try this one, do an estimated monthly household budget. Whatever excess there is, put in a time deposit. And for further good karma, whenever somebody needs help - don't think twice about extending help.

Still at the end of the day, it would be less difficult to do budgeting with sure money rather than nothing at all.

You recognized that you have a problem and that is good... this is such a deep subject, this is mental and wrapping yourself in the worldly goods is what the world wants.. not what's good for your soul or the family.

Leave the money in the millitary savings.. don't touch, get control of your daily spending, do the O'pra thing that has been recommened.

Another good book is: Your money or your life', or "the richest man in Babylon" = short read but good.

The path you are on is a path too distruction, finances and sex are the two killers of a marriage. Show me a wife who is good with money and I will show you a rich family.... and I don't mean in having lots of toys, I mean those things which truely bring happiness.
Good luck

a good thing to do is to have a budget. i know the no body likes that word but they really do help. we have lived on one for a while and we set aside money for going out to dinner, movies, car inc, ect. if you have a bugdet and set aside money for diffrent things then you will have a lot more to show for your money. when you got to wal-mart make a list of the things that you need and ONLY GET THE THINGS ON THE LIST !!!!! i know that it is hard at first, i struggled with it too. you go down the isles that you only need to go down. if you see something that you really want well then you need to consult your budget and see if you are ready to buy one.. so with that said if you dtick to it, you will have stuff to show for your money..

now if you really need to know how hard it is to make the money that you are spending then i would say yes get a job and only spend the money that you make. and you will find that it is really hard to make and spend money.
