And Bush vetoes it? How does that make the majority of conservatives feel, knowing that their elected representatives are being shot down? I mean, it only took this long for us to agree on something, and Bush has to shoot it down. Perhaps he is responsible for the political divide?

Dear classical123, I see alot of questions about young girls, lord of the rings, and alcohol. Are you as 40 year old virgin living in your mom's basement, trying to coerce young women with alcohol?

screwed, I have no idea what you are talking about. Care to explain? Anyhow, I was talking about elected officials, not unofficial spokespeople, like yourself

Screwed, I get it, you are trying to attack me on a personal level. Since you asked, my brother's legs were amputated as a result of pressure sores that occur from sitting in a wheelchair all day. His spinal chord has eaten itself, as a result of non function, that is to say, he has no spinal chord. Research at this point will not benefit my brother it is too late. How many more people need to suffer pointlessly, because you have an opinion? And an ill-informed one, at that?

classical, you say you read my questions, why don't you answer them? If you just want to be insulting, well I can play that game too.

Like the "gay marriage amendment", this set of laws was never meant to be passed.

This is just a political trick to allow some Republicans to pretend they are for stem cell research, and others to pretend they are against stem cell research. It's nothing but a trick to help them in the upcoming elections, without actually having to produce anything (which would necessarily alienate someone).

All part of living under a corrupt and morally ambiguous government of scumbags.

I think you'd find that almost all Americans who did not support it were conservative, and that many of the conservatives who did support it would not have considered it as high-priority as some other issues. If anything, I'd guess that it got some of those conservative votes in Congress simply because they didn't have to worry about it actually passing. So, some politicians are probably having it both ways. (That's just a theory; I have no one in mind and no evidence to support that theory.)

Still: Last I heard, they were nowhere near overriding the veto. Seems to me that says something...

Anyway, how about we stop expending so much effort & resources on an endeavor that has yielded nothing useful yet, and first further pursue the research that is yielding real results on humans. See links:

If I were president, I'd have probably not vetoed the bill- I'd have much rather have vetoed the many pork spending bills passed by congress over the past 5+ years.

Still the asker above me made a good point- Bush did promise to veto the bill(imagine that- a politician who actually does what he says he will).

And the veto is a constitutional perogative.

Bush said he'd veto it. He said he would do this when he began federal funding of existing embryonic stem cell lines. So it was known he was against destroying any more embryos for the past 5 years (or however long ago that was), and would veto any bill that proposed doing so.

Why are people then so shocked or upset?

Like most liberals, your memory doesn't go back very far.

Liberals and conservatives agreed on creating the Department of Homeland Security, The Patriot Act, the War in Iraq, Medicare prescription drug coverage and many other things. It is liberal politicians who decided they no longer supported any of those things when they thought they could gain politically by not supporting them. It is liberal "thinkers" like yourself who blindly hate everything President Bush does that have changed their minds after originally supporting many of the things he has done.

1. Just because a bill passed doesn't mean they "agreed".

2. He said the day he was elected that he would veto any bill supporting stem cell research on human embryos. I wasn't surprised.

3. What cracks me up is that he "upholds human life" then turns around and occupies a country ILLEGALLY and has the blood of thousands on his hands because of it.

Well, for one thing, the Republicans in Congress are not conservatives. Have you seen how much they're spending? Besides, virtually no politician actually votes based on principle, they vote based on what they think will get them re-elected. Bush can't be re-elected (2 term limit) so he can act on his principles.

Dear Hichef,

I've seen many questions from you on Liberals v. Conservatives, etc., and obvious anger about conservatives. Does this consume all of your thinking and life?

-j.

The difference being, hichef, that I've actually read a few of your questions.

who says that we agree on destroying life because you think that embryonic stem cell will cure your little brother's paralysis? Hiche, I know some people that MAY be cured by embryonic stem cells: Why aren't you at the clinic getting harvested? Why are YOU not at the clinic getting harvested for your brother's sake?
