Has anyone tried teaching their baby sign language? When do you normally start teaching?

OMG i learned this when i was working in daycare while i was pregant. It helps GREATLY!

I only used a few signs with my daughter... mainly: MORE, ALL DONE and PLEASE.

They worked like a charm and i catch her still using them sometimes and shes 19months old now. I think in introduced them around 4 months being sure to use that sign every time i said the word. It becomes EXTREMELY helpful.

Good Luck!

No, it's a bad idea. If you teach them sign language then they will just have a harder time learning how to speak. Babies need to have trouble communicating with you so that they will feel the need to speak. If they have the ability to communicate with you through sign languange then they will see no need in learning how to talk and it will just take longer.

It is recommended to start around 9 months. There are DVDs out that can help. I started teaching my son and he could say milk, poop, please & thank you, more and eat and all done before he could talk. And Emily is completely wrong. According to experts it actually helps with language development.
