In this year the world's greatest minds are deliberating ways to save the planet from global warming.

The solution they arrive at is time travel. Their conclusion is that by travelling back in time and killing two specific individuals, the fate of Planet Earth will be change for the better.

1) Who is elected to die at what point in history, how is the plan executed and how will that make things better without using the word "flatulation?"

The reason we face global warming today is because of the Industrial Revolution. We need to prevent it from ever happening.

With something as world changing as the Industrial Revolution, however, it is hard to pinpoint one person who's death would prevent it. It's more the result of socioeconomic forces that, by the time of the actual Industrial Revolution, were unstoppable.

I would kill King John of England in the year 1199, and make sure someone more capable took the throne. His mistakes led to his nobles drafting the Magna Carta in 1215, the beginning of the end of the medieval feudal system. The Industrial Revolution started in England, in large part because of the freedoms Englishmen had, which all started back at the Magna Carta.

After the death of King John, it's reasonable to assume the Industrial Revolution will be delayed quite a bit, but eventually, in a timeline completely different from our own, it would again come to pass. From my vantagepoint in the future, I would reanalyze the situation, and decide who in this new timeline I had to kill to prevent the Industrial Revolution entirely. The key is to prevent humanity from attaining democracy for as long as possible.

I'm not going to say that global warming is a myth, but I think that until we have a real grasp of the nature of climate and humankind's role in affecting in, we can't really determine if any global warming is truly a threat to civilisation. True, should it happen to a significant degree, there will be negative consequences, but there are also likely to have benefits from it as well.

I cannot think of anyone, past or present, that would be applicable targets. Despite some of the alarmist rhetoric of some, they certainly mean well, and I doubt that anyone with a brain would want to cause a catastrophe intentionally. Given that this is a hypothetical situation, I will thus give a hypothetical answer.

My nomination would be the two important leaders of a violent eco-terrorist group that has become frustrated by the world's low priority of dealing with climate changes that they decide to show humanity the devastation of global warming by actually causing it to accelerate. True, it is the mentality of curing the disease by killing the patient, but in a world where cults of death arise, it certainly is possible that somebody or several somebodies would enact such a ludicrous plot.

The way the world is going - will it really be around in 9567? Won't global warming already have destroyed it?

Two people will not do the trick. It took many people to get the world in the shape it's in environmentally speaking. I am talking about corporations, etc.

I'm sure the people would be killed in a humane way - unless the world goes back to barbaric ways.

Reality Check: Stephen W. Hawking (you know ,the wheelchair guy) recently posed a question right here on Yahoo! Answers asking this: At the world's present condition, it is politically, socially and financially at war with itself. How
can we survive another 100 years? With that being said, just how ARE we going to last 7,561 more years until then?

putting aside number of victims, i would suggest that whoever was responsible for disallowing nikola tesla's inventions/projects/researches regarding free energy( a totally clean energy source) to see the light of day would be the target. if i'm not mistaken j.p. morgan and other "psychopath barons" of oil and industry took the lead in this endeavor. whether, if they had been removed, no one else would have interjected themselves to stop him, seems highly questionable. in a culture where greed and psychopathy rule, only money counts. how to dispose of the malfeasors?(is that a word?)that is not of particular interest to me. just defanging them would have been enough. except, actually, doing whatever would be necessary to remove all their wealth "power" and status might be amusing. actually, they'd probably just have dropped over fairly quickly from terminal "ego withdrawal". cheers!
