Yes it does work, so does buttermilk.
First, yeast is part of the normal vaginal flora, that is the microorganisms that normally live in the human vagina. There are also several species of bacteria. There is a very tightly controlled environment in the vagina, one that is favorable to the bacteria that is there. The bacterial growth keeps the yeast onder control. If a woman is given ampicillin for treatment of any kind of bacterial infection, within days she will have a yeast infection as soon as the normal vaginal bacteria is killed off. Also other environmental changes such as pH within the vagina can cause the yeast to overgrow the bacteria.
Now back to the yogurt and buttermilk, it is not the enzmes that either may contain but rather the live bacteria in both that makes them what they are. Douching with yogurt or buttermilk will reestablish the bacteria levels within the vagina which will in turn reduce the yeast back to normal levels.

Yes. If you cannot afford yeast medication you can dip a tampon in plain yogurt. Be sure to change the tampon every 3 to 4 hours. Only do this for about 24 hours. The lactobacillus in plain yogurt is the same healthy bacteria found in the vagina. Using yogurt is an old but effective treatment for yeast; however since yeast medication is no longer on prescription you might want to consider a trip to your pharmacy instead of the grocery store.

Yup, I heard it's a true fact - dipping your tampon in plain yogurt can help cure a yeast infection. (There are a few natural ways to do so, but there's certain enzymes or something that you have to make sure the yogurt has)
However, it's not something I reccommend. Buy an over-the-counter remedy. They work excellent and seem easier and less messy.

I was told by an old doctor that UNpasturized yogurt would kill yeast. In fact I was also told that in other countries this was a common home remedy. I have never tried it as I don't know where to find UNpasturized anything.

Actually it is. from everything i read when i had one. However its not always guaranteed to be effective. Its the cultures in yogurt that do it. I would say try that if you want to, and if it doesnt work. go ahead and use the regular creams. Monistat now has a 1-day treatment that can be used at night OR during the day that is pretty effective from what i've heard. Though you may still want to get something for external itching if present.

umm, I'm not so sure about that, but I know if you eat yogurt it helps prevent yeast infections. Spend the extra couple dollars and just get the pill and cream that gets rid of it in a day

Oh my god no. You do not put yogurt there! My doctor once told me to EAT yogurt because it helps, but the best bet is an over the counter thing like monostat. Even if the yogurt may help- I think the monostat would be much quicker and more effective.

i've done it, but have had more success with white vinegar in water as a douche. it balances out the ph, which should be acidic so the yeast can't live.
