Yes, it's insulting. But there may also be differences.

Telling someone to get over what happened to their parents or grandparents 60 years ago is different than telling someone to get over what happened to other completely unrelated people 150 years ago.

As with many things, context matters. Carrying around anger because of what someone you never met did to someone else you never met is different than carrying around anger about what was done to your aunts or grandparents.

Now, both of the groups you list above have parents and grandparents and close relatives who were horribly mistreated. And both also make arguments about what happened many many generations ago. I'd say to those who are arguing about hundreds of years ago, get over it because there's nothing you can do no.

And to those who are still dealing emotionally with what happened to them, allow yourself to heal (get past it) before the unresolved grief causes further damage.

But totally different context and totally different process.

Slavery should not be forgotten, its a dark time in US history. But why should the black population of today use what happened to slaves (some of which were white or Chinese ) as a way to get a free ride. That's what people see. Some of the Jewish population that lives today were direct victims of the holocaust . And are not giving 1000 reasons why we owe them. They ask people to remember so it won't happen again. There is nobody alive today that was a direct victim of slavery. If the black population used slavery to teach future generations for the purpose of preventing it from happening again instead of using it as a "pay off " for every black generation to come .. They would get the same respect as the Jews.

No, nobody is currently still trying to enslave black people (except the democrat party). However, there are plenty of people still trying to kill all the Jews.

Slavery ended many generations ago. Many blacks have gotton over it and become very successful. Some still use it as an excuse for their own failures. Not that this is unique to blacks. Every group of people have some that succeed and some that blame others for their failures.

nicely, no one might desire to ever forget Slavery, as a results of fact it continues to be happening in some sort even on the instant. you are the 1st Black individual i've got heard of that asserts White people say this to you. i'm a white American and that i've got on no account heard a white individual say that. i don't fairly comprehend any Jewish people, so i won't be ready to remark on that different than to assert the Holocaust grew to become into additionally a terrible atrocity and none of those tragic historic activities might desire to ever be forgotten. in my opinion, i think of that each and every physique White Europeans have been terrible people, a minimum of from a historic perspective: Slavery, Colonialism, The Spanish Inquisition, and so on. The Monarchs & the the Aristocrats have ruled the international for way too long. close by people (American Indians) had there land stolen faraway from them or taken via protection stress stress. the U. S. grew to become into outfitted on slavery and regrettably ought to not have existed without it. whilst some one says you will possibly desire to forget something as terrible as Slavery or the Holocaust, ask them a pair of time whilst somebody made them sense inferior, bullied or bodily abused them and that they have been helpless to do something approximately it. in the event that they undergo in innovations, then they have not forgotten their very own suffering. So why do you need to or anybody else sense in a various way approximately yours?

listen leave the past in the past. Don't never forget it, I not saying not to be mad, I hear lot of people say get over it. If you have not walked in my shoes, please don't judge me. Slavery and the Holocaust lost a lot of lives, black people may not have been gas, but they was starved, beaten, set on fire, burn and hung. I have had horrible thing told to young generation about what happen during slavery by the elders of my family so do not judge unless u walked in my shoes. Hatred is here. Each one is just as bad as the other one, Slavery and Holocaust. So the one say get over with it, don't know what the hell they talking about. I lost family members over hatred. I will never forget but I can forgive. I will never not be mad, but I will love my neighbors. I am interracial marriage

I'm sorry, but there is a very big difference in slavery and the holocaust!! Were your ancestors put in gas chambers? Were they starved to death? You obviously need to read a history book and get off your soap box. Not saying slavery wasn't an autrocity, but it's nothing compared to the holocaust!

It shouldn't haunt your days. Remember what your ancestors went through, but don't lose your future living in the past. I'm black and american indian. I don't ever forget the fact that even my great great (american indian) grandfather WAS a slave in the USA. I just try to be the best person I can be in my life to honor the memory of my ancestors who weren't fortunate enough to enjoy the freedom I have today. I will not, however, punish or blame people who had nothing to do with it...and that's everyone who is living now. I also try not to forget that slavery was a common practice (by blacks) in Africia years before it was ever practiced here.

I don't think that you need to "get over" slavery or the holocaust. But you can't just go around taking it out on people today. I mean I didn't own slaves and neither did my family. I also wasn't involved in the holocaust and neither was my family.

So no you don't have to "get over it" but why harp on it anyway? Both things are in the past.

Yes and I'm a white guy.

HOWEVER, we live in a modern and free society, equal rights for every one.

I don't like institutions for specific races though.

What is the difference between black rights and white rights?

THEY BOTH SOUND RACCIST TO ME.

the NAACP stands for the national accociation of the advancement of colored people.

replace colored with white and it sounds pretty raccist don't it.

Sounds raccist both ways to me. Because we now have equal rights for everyone.

Slavery is in the past and so is the holocaust... they should be remembered.

RACCISM IS TERRIBLE, THOUGH IT STILL EXIST TODAY, BUT NOT AS MUCH AS IT USED TO BE. POEPLE STILL HAVE SET THEIR THINKING IN THE 60's AND STILL THINK THEY ARE BEING OPPRESSED.

When some African Americans go out looking for raccism from white people, they are over sensitive.

"look that white guy walked by me and didn't look at me"

"look that other guy walked by and looked at me"

"look another guy shook my hand and said hello"

"He didn't say hello right, like he was afaid of me or something, man these folks are so raccist."

I DON'T APPRISHIATE THAT, This kind of person just over reacts and tries to find raccism whever they go so that they can say "Yes, I am oppresed wherever I go."
So I will go to the NAACP and claim my rights as an African American.

I AM NOT SAYING THAT EVERYONE DOES THAT, NOR AM I SAYING YOU DO THAT OR ANYTHING ELSE.

MY POINT IS, WE SHOULD STOP THINKING IN THE PAST, LET GO OF ALL HATRED, AND MOVE ON INTO THE FUTURE, AS AMERICAN CITIZENS OF EQUAL RIGHTS AND NOT BE RACCIST TOWARDS ONE ANOTHER.

I HATE RACCISM,

IT IS TIME FOR ALL OF US TO GROW UP, LIVE TOGETHER AS AMERICANS AND ENJOY THE FREEDOM THAT OUR FOREFATHERS GAVE US.

I don't tell them to get over anything, but I don't think I should be held accountable for either because I didn't do it. I understand it is a bad party of history, but it's just that, history. Leave the past in the past and don't try to hold people who were not responsible for tragic events accountable for others actions!!!
