My dad does my taxes, and he won't let me do them on my own. I want to work at Hooters, but I don't want him to see my W-2 form when taxes come around. I don't see him being very happy about me working there. Is it possible to hold off on filing it or forgetting it all together?

It is no big deal as long as you don't owe money. I know people that wait 3 or 4 years. It is bad to file late only if you owe.

I have waited 2 years to file. Just claim 0 and don't mind waiting to get your money back. You will make more on tips anyhow.

It is a crime not to file a tax return, and the IRS takes this very seriously! The IRS does allow for extensions of tax filing, but that doesn't get you out of having to pay what you owe.

If you're an adult and not a minor, you can file your own tax return. You could have an accountant do it or take it to a place like H&R Block.

But regardless, you cannot get away with openly refusing to file your taxes.

simple. tell him your working under the table (cash pay) and not to file your taxes this year then go and file your taxes with an outside accounting firm. and which Hooters you working at? lol j/k good luck.

if you make more then 3500 per year you have to file its the law and you might get fines and then he'll find out anyways.

If you made less than your standard deduction + your personal exemption, then yes you could theoretically not file them.

However, if you are getting a refund, why wouldn't you want your money back from the government? I would encourage you to file. You might face bigger demons down the road if you don't.

Also, why can't you do your own taxes? You get your W2 and should be able to do them yourself or pick someone, not just your dad.

If you don't include it on the tax return, the IRS will notify you saying that the wage report is missing. If you don't pay it, eventually the IRS will contact you about it and probably add penalties. It will eventually come back to get you.

Also, if you don't report it, you might be missing out on a return....cash back to you.

I would be honest about the job and file the taxes properly....it'll save you and you dad grief later.

sounds like trouble!! look if your over 18 years old you are leagly responsible for handling your taxes. if you don't file the irs can and usually will catch up with you and it can get very expensive very quickly, trust me on this one I did it once and it cost me almost three thousand dollars. if you don't want your dad doing your taxes simply take them to any h&r block tax place and have them do it , it doesent cost you much and usually they will take the mony right out of your return
well cheers hoots and hollars!! good luck and God bless

If you want to pay a load of fines later, yes. Otherwise do them on time. You can do them yourself easy whether he likes it or not. I use TurboTax online, it's free for people who make up to a certain amount each year and free to file online as well.
