go down into the london underground and travel in style while spotting tramps and general vagrants, you can get a ticket so that you can travel round the subway all day, that way you will really see the heart of London through the varied peoples and cultures that live there.

You can even stop and look at the crown jewels, tower bridge is particularly beautiful by night, see if you can spot the depressed people, give them a cheerful nod and a "hows it going mate?", might cheer em up. Avoid the London eye, the big wheel, I hear that it was built on the cheap, don't become a statistic. erm and all the other stuff, covent garden at closing time.

If you're into music then ask this crazy friend of mine as he knows more about that than me.

Oh and see the queen in the palace, give her a wave, she may wave back, or have the guards throw used teabags at you depending on her mood.

We just got back on Sunday. If you like museums, the Victoria and Albert in Kennsington is great! London Tower has great armory and the crown jewels. Westminster Abbey, St. Pauls, take a cruise on the Thames down to Grinich. Use the trains though. Driving in London is tough and they charge an extra tax for driving there, in addition to the cost of gas. We rented a diesel VW Minivan and it cost 65 pounds to fill it once.

Stay clear of the usual tourist traps such as madames etc...unless thats what rings your bell.
Freebies are British museum off Gower street, National Portrait gallery, Tate Mod and Tate gallery.
Check out www.timeout.com
Other options are river rides and changing of the guard, Hamstead Heath or walks in London.

There is so much to see and do. I would recommend you get the London Pass which is great value for money if you want to do the real tourist thing. Check out http://www.londonvacationguide.com as a good resourse to organise your stay.
